A Year of the Tao – Day 28

“Live in accordance with the nature of things. This is the Tao.”

(From A New Way of Thinking, A New Way of Being Experiencing the Tao Te Ching)

Seeker: Oh, okay.  I’ll get right on it.  (Begins to exit.  Stops. Turns.) Um, excuse me—er, what is the nature of things?
Sage: What have I told you?
Seeker: Water nourishes without trying to.
Sage: And why is that my child?
Seeker: Because it is its nature to do so.
Sage: What else have you learned?
Seeker: Not to ask questions?  No?  Let’s see…Heaven and earth last forever… be-cause…(sees he’s not getting any help from the sage) because they do not live for themselves only!
Sage: And so the mysterious feminine…
Seeker: Is revealed in nature…
Sage: So the nature of things…
Seeker: (Sighs)  Is a mystery…
Sage: Precisely.  You have learned much.
Seeker: (Walks away mumbling to self)  Yeah, to stop asking questions…

About Karen Nicholson

“Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.” ~ John Milton Writing about these moments of awe has been a driving force of my life for, well, as long as I can remember. Coupled with a devotion to sunrises and sunsets that defies explanation, a combination of the two seemed like the right thing to do. I welcome you to my world. May it be a blessing to yours.
